iWin research on regional economic development capitalizes on an expanded vision of the human capital asset as an input to regional innovation and economic growth. Human capital, in the broadest sense, refers to the capacity to create effective workplaces that allow people to innovate, create new products, increase productivity, and improve business processes. iWin’s regional economic development research explores the use of this expanded definition of human capital as a catalyst for economic development and workforce development.
This study is a comprehensive evaluation of the Bluegrass Region’s entrepreneurial environment. It will explore what factors invite innovative companies and individuals to Kentucky, and will assess the supports and networks that exist—or could exist—to foster high-tech entrepreneurial development. Information will be gathered through three means: case studies that qualitatively document the factors that have influenced the success of existing local, high-tech firms; focus groups with key stakeholders in regional economic development that will evaluate the needs and assets of area entrepreneurs; and a regional survey of high-tech entrepreneurs that will collect baseline demographic, environmental and business data regarding the Bluegrass’ current entrepreneurial climate. Once analyzed, the data will be used to generate a ‘best practice’ report on entrepreneurial success and to develop an action plan to cultivate the region’s high-tech entrepreneurial potential. click here for slides describing this project click here to open the report Where the Region Stands click here to open the report Stories of Success For more information about this project please contact Mac Werner. |
